Alice Layman, accompanist

Alice Layman has served as accompanist for Virginia Consort since its founding in 1990. Mrs. Layman received a B.A. degree in Organ Performance from Hollins College (now Hollins University), Roanoke, VA, and  a Masters of Music in Organ Performance from the University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY. Mrs. Layman has served as organist and choir director at Episcopal churches in Charlottesville since 1977, most recently St. Paul's Ivy, since 2000. Since 1977, Mrs. Layman has accompanied various choral groups (Oratorio, District Choirs, All-State Choir), instrument and voice studio recitals, soloists for competitions, community theater musicals, and UVA music theater productions. Since 1992, Mrs. Layman has taught music in the Lower School of St. Anne's-Belfield, Charlottesville, VA.

Tim McCallister, accompanist

Tim McCallister has been studying piano and organ since age six. He majored in English at Furman University while continuing his organ study with Charles Tompkins. After earning a J.D. at the University of Virginia School of Law, Mr. McCallister transferred to the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, where he is presently pursuing a masters in Hispanic literature. He is one of four organists at Church of Our Saviour Episcopal in Charlottesville.

Susan Black, concertmaster

Violinist Susan Black began her career as Assistant Concertmaster of the North Carolina Symphony, and she is currently Concertmaster of The Virginia Consort, The Oratorio Society of Charlottesville-Albemarle, and the Waynesboro Symphony Orchestra. She also serves as Principal Second Violin of the Shenandoah Valley Bach Festival Orchestra, and has been a member of the Wintergreen Festival Orchestra since the Festival began.

She was on faculty of the Eastern Music Festival for 25 years, serving as first violinist for 9 years and as Principal Second Violin for 16 years. She was also Principal Second Violin of the Charlottesville and University Symphony Orchestra for 14 years. Ms. Black currently teaches violin and viola at Mary Baldwin College and maintains a full private studio in Charlottesville.
