Choruses

The Virginia Consort is proud to offer performing opportunities for both adults and children.

The Chamber Ensemble

The 35-member core Chamber Ensemble offers a full season of concerts, including two perennially sold-out Christmas with The Consort performances, the Mid Season Masterworks performance of a major work with an expanded chorus, professional soloists and full orchestra, and an annual spring program, A Little May Music.

The Festival Chorus

Each spring for the Mid-Season Masterworks performance, The Virginia Consort expands its membership by inviting qualified singers to join them in presenting a major work from the choral-orchestral repertoire. Past performances include Beethoven’s Ode to Joy, Lauridsen’s Lux Aeterna, Franz Joseph Haydn’s Mass in Time of War, Gloria by Poulenc and Verdi’s Requiem.

The Youth Chorale

At the very core of our existence is a commitment to introduce young people to the fun and joy of singing together, to expose them to a rich and diverse repertoire of choral music and to instill in them the discipline necessary to produce a fine performance. We hope to encourage young musicians to continue singing throughout their lives. The Youth Chorale is currently directed by Victoria Redfearn Cave.

The Virginia Consort Youth Chorale was formed in 1992 by The Virginia Consort, a choral ensemble of adult singers under the direction of Judith Gary. The Youth Chorale began with 20 singers but then grew to include over 100 young  people! After a 2-year hiatus due to COVID-19 pandemic, the Youth Chorale is currently rebuilding under the directorship of Victoria Redfearn Cave.  Members are chosen by audition and are re-auditioned each year at the discretion of the Director.

Choral Academy for High School Musicians

The Virginia Consort Choral Academy is a 6-day summer music camp for high school musicians. The Choral Academy is a unique and exciting summer opportunity for high school students to study and perform a major work with professional soloists and orchestra. The Choral Academy is designed to help students more fully understand vocal production, music theory, music history and conducting technique. Other classes offered include Sight Reading, Preparing for an Audition, and Alexander Technique for Singers. We hope to restart the Choral Academy in Summer 2023. Keep an eye on this website for more information regarding audition, registration, and tuition!

“…I wanted to finally take time to thank you for…our children's experiences with The Youth Chorale. They will never, ever forget it, and neither will their parents. Ron and I are both so grateful for what you do to enrich our community.”

— Trish Higgins, Youth Chorale Parent

"I am about to start my first year as a high school music teacher in northern Virginia and hope to offer my students the musical opportunities that I was fortunate to have because of my experience with The Youth Chorale."
